CHIN is an intensive novices’ Chinese course provided by UBC’s The Department of Asian Studies, in which students will be finishing a 6 credits course within 6 weeks. During the summer of 2019, a group of UBC students came to Taiwan to have this intensive Chinese course. Not only did they receive very intensive language training, they also had to use what they’ve learned in class to traverse their everyday lives in Taiwan. Apart from language learning, we also value the presence of cultural literacy in the program, this is shown when we held a variety of events for students to experience Taiwanese culture. For example, tea picking, visiting the National Center for Traditional Arts, pineapple making, stamp sealing and river trekking. We’ve gathered the students learning process, outcomes and projects on this website as well as the most memorable moments they had while studying in Taiwan. Join us to discover their growth here on 14 ways of understanding Taiwan.
