ABOUT ME
My name is Ryder Brooks or 瑞德. I am a third year Political Science student at the University of British Columbia. I am from Santa Fe, New Mexico. I have been studying Chinese for about 8 months and am very happy to have completed the Global exchange program.
WHAT THIS PROGRAM BROUGHT ME
I was excited about this Summer program because of the opportunity to immerse myself into a culture and language that was completely foreign to me and provided an opportunity to push myself outside of my comfort zone.
LIVING EXPERIENCES: 生病的经验
MY LEARNING JOURNALS
WHAT I SEE IN TAIWAN
Exercise in Taiwan 台湾的运动文化
My Vlogs are primarily about exercise and my exploration into what the differences between exercise in Taiwan and North America. I found exercise in Taiwan to be fundamental the culture and life in Taiwan, and is practiced by all ages in varying forms--from the senior citizens doing Tai Chi to the young kids playing basketball.
EXPLORING TAIWAN
Practicum Day
Practicum Day was an interesting experience. Traveling outside of the metropolis of Taipei highlighted some of Taiwan’s unique culture and allowed my group to explore a different side of Taiwan. Through unfortunate circumstances we were able to see what a hospital experience was like, what a police station was like, and how to navigate these situations. The necessity of difficult situations forced us to expand our vocabulary and utilize what we had learned to accomplish complex tasks.
