ABOUT ME

你好! 我是UBC二年级的学生. 我的专业是亚州研究. 我学中华文化. 我很喜欢中国和台湾的历史和文化. 我计划要双主修. 我第二个主修是国际关系.

I am interested in the political, economic, and cultural phenomenon of Taiwan as well as complex issues in regard to cross-straight relations with Mainland China. In particular, I am interested in examining the power of culture and tourism as a tool for diplomacy. Another area of interest of mine is Southeast Asian culture and the economic sphere of ASEAN -- especially its interactions with the global theatre and Mainland China.

WHAT THIS PROGRAM BROUGHT ME

This program provided me with a new understanding of my own Chinese heritage as well as a deeper understanding of the culture and society that is the cornerstone of my major.

Practicum Day

Our trip to Hualian was very enlightening!

很有趣! 我觉得太鲁阁国家公园很漂亮. 我对华联第一次的印象花很好! 花莲有大自然. 花莲市附近是海边. 我觉得是台湾最漂亮的地方!

Hualien is full of natural beauty. I would recommend it to any nature enthusiast! Taroko Gorge is absolutely breathtaking and full of history. It reflects the struggles of Taiwanese people trying to create infrastructure across the island. Hualien is not just full of natural beauty, however, it holds cultural and political importance. Hualien county is populated with many of the First Nations peoples, such as the Taroko people. It has a unique blend of indigenous and modern cultures. Hualien is also a strategic military base. Hualien was and still is an important military base for aircraft. It holds a strategic location and has a lot of military bases scattered along the water. Any sports enthusiast would also enjoy Hualien since its full of many fun excursions such as parachuting! I would recommend Hualian to anyone since it has a little bit of something for everyone!
