VLOG 2

By going to Ximending multiple times and at different times of the day, I was able to gain a deeper understanding of the graffiti there and particular around the Taipei Cinema Park. The first time I went there the park was pretty much empty, just a couple of teenagers walking around, talking with each other. The second time was more lively, with a lot more adults utilizing the space to socialize, walk, exercise, with even some families walking through the area. The third time I went is when I really got to the park full of people as I went on Saturday and was able to actually see and talk to the master graffiti artist, that will be covered in the next video. I don’t really know what about this project brings me a sense of achievement, I suppose exploring areas of the city that perhaps not many other people see, or noticing the graffiti in the first place as a lot of the people in the program, and folks I’ve met from Taipei didn’t seem to pay any mind to the graffiti all around them, but once I started to point some out to them, they started to see it everywhere. The fact that more people are noticing this kind of art is nice. I think the biggest challenge of this project is pushing myself, as I tend to not want to. I also noticed the third time I went that there were more tourists taking pictures with the graffiti, I’m not a huge fan of having my picture taken with art, monuments, etc,, so I find it difficult to go to this place and vlog/ talk into a camera, that’s another one of the challenges I have, I prefer to just show the art, not my reaction, so people can have their own thoughts about it, I don’t think it’s about me, but about what people feel about it, I don’t mind sharing my thoughts on it I don’t know what I expect this project to be, Taipei’s vibrant and clearly active graffiti scene is one of the reasons why I think I’ve fallen in love with the place. It’s great to see all so many different kinds of art around you all the time, so I would just like to share my appreciation of it with people in hopes that they too may appreciate it, or at least think of it. I guess I expect it to be a showcase of some things that I think that most people  don’t notice, I don’t think the people painting mind that it goes unnoticed. I plan on wrapping up the project with interviews, I was able to try to interview the master graffiti artist at Ximending. 我对第一师傅的印象有一点可怕,我见面师傅,我对师傅的印象很和。I got to watch him teaching two of his students how to paint, and watching that process was awesome. So I hope to end this project with a reason why people paint, and why people seem to not notice it.

One of the things I hope to convery is that the graffiti around us is alway changing, new tags are always popping up around Shi Da, and the murals at Ximending change all the time as well.
