ABOUT ME

I wanted to learn Chinese because it such a widely used language. It would open up the possibility to conversense with close to one billion more people. Because I had a chinese student live with me my senior year of highschool, I developed an interest in the language. He was accepted into my family, and I was accepted into his. I have spent four months living with him and his family, thus sparking my interest in learning Chinese.

WHAT THIS PROGRAM BROUGHT ME

I especially enjoyed experiencing 热炒, rechao, which is hot food that is fast to make. It’s a large communal meal, with friends, family, coworkers, usually late at night, with drinks and good food. The atmosphere is chaotic. It’s loud and there is food floating around everywhere.

WHAT I SEE IN TAIWAN

Graffiti in Taiwan

I think graffiti around the world is similar because the style is similar, but it’s different because of the cultural impressions on it from the countries its produced from, or the native imagery it draws from in that home country.

EXPLORING TAIWAN

Practicum Day

I was able to experience some aboriginal Taiwanese culture at the Kending night market. I was at an alcohol stall, the group I was with was practicing our Chinese with the woman working there, we became friends with her, and she showed us an aboriginal drinking dance.
