ABOUT ME

I am currently a student at UBC and I came to Taiwan in order to learn mandarin in an immersion setting. I have learned many new ways of thinking about my surroundings as well as how to deal with unexpected events while here in Taiwan. I am excited to apply these lessons when I return home to Vancouver.

我在UBC学校。来台湾以后我学东西得多。在温哥华以后，我希望记得我学就什么。

WHAT THIS PROGRAM BROUGHT ME

The summer program has allowed me to greatly improve my Mandarin. However, I learned many other skills as well. I learned to consistently apply myself to a very difficult and intense program as well as interact with locals in a setting I am not familiar with. These skills of perseverance and adaptation will continue influence me once I have returned from Taiwan.

我在台湾练习中文很好了。所以我说中文说得很好。可是我也学跟台湾人相处得很好。因为台湾的人比加拿大人不一样，所以我觉得这是很重要。

WHAT I SEE IN TAIWAN

In my vlog series I looked at art culture and art museum culture here in Taiwan. I found it interesting because it was very different to North American culture surrounding art. Getting to discover these differences was a great experience That i am very grateful for.

我去两个美术馆。我觉得台湾的美术馆和加拿大的美术馆不一样。我觉得台湾的美术馆比加拿大的美术馆很有意思。

EXPLORING TAIWAN

Practicum Day

For our practicum weekend my group went to Hualien City in Hualien County. Transportation there caused some difficulties due to problems with our tickets. However, we were able to use our chinese to arrive in Hualien at our planned time. For me, the most interesting and educational experience I had, while in Hualien, was taking a tour of Taroko National Park. Our group hired a tour guide who spoke both English and Mandarin; however, we requested that he spoke to us mostly in Mandarin in order to practice our listening comprehension skills and our abilities to speak mandarin. Due to this, I feel that my mandarin was greatly improved on our trip.

我和我的同学去花莲了。先我们去yilan做公共汽车了。再我们去花莲做火车了。我们请一位导游给我们介绍太鲁阁国家公园。他说中文和英文。可是我们请他说中文是因为我们可以练习中文。我们去花莲以后，我说中文说越来越好。
